kellinator: (Ivanova by crazybee)

Ow, my head.

Do you ever think that just maaaaaaybe we've reached the point of too much information? I mean, how many websites do you check in a day? I remember hearing as a child that if you read a newspaper cover to cover, you've read more and absorbed more information than most people in previous centuries did in their entire lifetimes. Since then, it's only gotten more so. I mean, it takes me forever to catch up with my friends list, the Vanderbilt basketball score, the portion of the news I can stand to listen to, SportsCenter highlights, and my email. I've got a little list in my head of a bunch of posts I've been meaning to make -- including one about my family's Christmas Eve -- and I don't know if I'll ever get to any of them. This is silly, but I'm worried that when I get back from California I'll be endlessly behind on what's going on everywhere. Suddenly I find myself wondering if there's even a way to simplify.

Yesterday I got really frustrated because I have the opportunity of a lifetime to look forward to, and instead of enjoying it, I'm stressing over travel arrangements and other logistics. I feel like I'm letting the moment pass me by, and I don't know how to stop it. Ferris Bueller told us that "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." But then again, I was always more Cameron than Ferris...

"No! I am not Ferris Bueller, nor was meant to be;
Am... Cameron, one that will do
To provide a car, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
Geeky, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous--
Almost, at times, the Fool."

You know, that was a hell of a lot funnier and more creative in my head. Hell, I didn't even have to change that many of the words. My apologies to T.S. Eliot.

And yeah, I know that what my friends list had for lunch is not exactly vital information, but please don't point that out to me. You'll just make my poor little overloaded head explode.

So I think what I'm trying to say is, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed, and also a little guilty for not responding to your LJ comments. And perhaps a vacation would be a very good thing.

I am so excited for you

Hopefully once you have all the arrangements solidly in place you can allow the excitement that we all are feeling for you to become infectious . . . I know that I, for one, am thrilled for you and I am sure that you are surrounded by many others.

I say, don't respond to any of us! Ignore us all! Think of it as a livejournal separation for a few days. And don't feel bad about it.

Just do whatever makes you happy, and if people take issue with that, well, they're just stupidheads! Besides, who would really think their journal was more important than JEOPARDY!? ;)

Whoever thinks that is far removed from reality. MMhhhmmm, that's right.

But MY journal is better than Jeopardy!!!

JUST KIDDIN'!

Take care!

I. Love. That. Icon.

Eh, ignore us for a bit.

If you aren't doing something for fun and you aren't doing it to getting paid, don't do it.

It's not that I want to take a break from LJ. I just want more hours in the day so I can accomplish more stuff. And a pony. Because everyone wants a pony.

I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] dwinghy about this very issue this weekend. We also concluded we have read every single page on the internet.

Dude, that's, like, the best quote I've heard all day.

Thank you!

(There was a great "Ivanova is God" one, but the page it was on went down. More's the pity...)

*giggle* The thing is, I like being all over LiveJournal. I'm just wondering how I have time to do it.

The only B5 one I've made so far is my Marcus one. Need to make more.

Oooooh, don't tell me anything about anything past halfway through season 2. [livejournal.com profile] wacko1138 has gotten me good and hooked on the DVDs and I'm trying desperately to stay unspoiled. He sits around and says cryptic things like "that's important" and then laughs at me when I glare at him.

But I love it. It's crack. I especially love how many good lines there are to go around for all the characters!

Hm. I don't think it's particularly spoilery; it was more of a throw-away thing from the tag end of an episode.

You're right; it's a great show. And somehow, I managed to stay spoiler free for the last season even though I didn't watch it until about a year after it aired -- no cable at the time, but my auntie who lives half the country away from me had taped it and lent me her tapes.

I found that I had a hard time letting go of my information overload habits until I found that I didn't have DSL or a computer for about 3 months. I got used to just living. It was weird, but good. :)
