I call it... the Jester Bag!

It's designed to hold your yarn while you crochet on the go. I've got more of a writeup at my crochet blog if you want to check it out.

and to tell the truth, I kinda like it that way. :)

I'm sure I'll use LJ again, when I have something to say. In the meantime, I've started a crochet blog over at, and it's linked up to my Ravelry page (I'm kellinator on Ravelry, and if you work with yarn you need to get on the waiting list right now, because it rocks), so that will probably be my main form of online noodling for a while.

Life is beautiful, isn't it?

So I'm making a cat in a bag.

Waitaminute. That sounded weird. Which was exactly what I intended. Let me explain. Once when I dragged James along to the yarn store, he found a book of crochet patterns for pets. One of these was a chenille "cat in a bag" -- a big bag for your cat to hang out in. We figured the cats would love this. So tonight I've been whipping it up. Super bulky yarn, so it's going fast.

But I made the mistake of setting it down for a minute. And apparently Katie knows exactly what it's for, because she just wandered over and curled up on top of it. And will not move so I can finish it. She's currently sitting here giving me this look like "What, bitch? I know it's for me anyway. Stop giving me that look. I'm not moving." Which is especially ironic because James wanted me to make Heidi's first. I've tried to explain to him that it doesn't matter which one is supposed to be for which one, because they don't care, and they're colorblind anyway.

For all James' claims that they're my cats, he sure doesn't act like it. He announced the other day that "you shouldn't use cheap yarn to make the kitties' bags, you should use nice yarn because they like nice yarn." I My reply to this was that I wasn't using ten-dollar-a-skein hand-wash-only yarn to make something they're just going to barf and poop on.

She hasn't even got it right. She's supposed to sit in the bag, not on the bag. Stupid kitty.

ETA: I got tired of waiting and pulled her off the bag so I could finish it. She gave me the most pissed-off meow. Now she's sitting here glaring at me. Stupid kitty.

ETA 2: She's now chewing on the yarn as I'm crocheting it. Well, at least I picked yarn they'll like. Stupid kitty.

Love you
Know why?
You're cheap
So'm I.

(Fourteen skeins of natural-fiber yarn for just over $40, bitches!)

Damn, I need a crochet icon.

This weekend the yarn store near my house was having a sale and James requested a hat made out of Baby Alpaca Grande. This stuff is beautiful; however, it's also a bitch to crochet with thus far. Does anyone know of a hat pattern for bulky yarn that's male-appropriate? I'm finding way too many damn flowered hats.

This is going to end with me having to crochet a swatch for gauge, isn't it? BO-RING.

Yes, I know everybody knits, and nobody crochets, except for me because

1). my grandmothers taught me and so when I crochet it gives me this warm gooshy feeling
2). everyone tells me crocheting is faster and easier than knitting
3). I am way too fucking lazy to learn how to knit when I'm not even particularly good at crocheting.

So I went in on a yarn order with a knitting-fiend co-worker and now, for the first time in my crocheting life, I have three balls of real, luxurious, non-Wal-Mart, non-Michaels yarn. It's Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK, in a lovely teal green, and I just want to sit here and pet it. To that effect, I need to crochet this into a scarf I can compulsively pet. But this yarn is so pretty, it seems a shame to just put it into a bunch of lines of double crochet. Does anyone have any very easy scarf patterns appropriate for alpaca? Crochet only, please. The knitters have taken over teh intarwub.

I reserve my right to decide that this is all too complicated and just put it into a bunch of lines of double crochet. Obviously I like the double crochet or I wouldn't use it all the damn time.
